IGONC Brings Automotive Apprenticeships to South Carolina

Raleigh, NC – The Independent Garage Owners of North Carolina (IGONC) is expanding their apprenticeship program to South Carolina. The North Carolina Apprenticeship Program currently operates in North Carolina and is sponsored by IGONC. Due to an increased demand and effort to expand, the apprenticeship program is now available in South Carolina.

The program was founded by IGONC in 2019 to alleviate the technician shortage the automotive industry faces. This is a two-year program allowing the apprentice to work part time in an independent shop, get paid for that work, while also attending any participating community college tuition free in both Carolinas. There are currently 14 registered apprentices in the program.

To participate in the program, the apprentice applicant must be at least 16 years old and currently enrolled in high school. There are also post-graduate opportunities available in both states.

Employers can participate at no cost and are able to interview and select their own apprentices. Participating shops must be a member in good standing with IGONC.
